Accommodative Services Weekly Dialogues at GCC

The Guam Community College Office of Accommodative Services and the non-profit group Transforming Ourselves through Healing, Growth, and Enrichment (TOHGE) will continue their series of free weekly dialogues in April aimed at promoting awareness of health-related issues and resources to include, but not be limited to, the following: substance abuse, mental health/illness, suicide, and disabilities.

April 18 – Wednesday 
Topic: Mental Illness
10:00 – 11:15 am in the GCC MPA (Building 400)

This third dialogue session covering mental illness is again open to the public. Students, faculty, and staff of GCC, UOG, and Guam Contractors Construction Trades Academy are encouraged to attend. Included will be testimonials and sharing of thoughts of about 10 – 12 minutes each from speakers. Attendees will be encouraged to engage in meaningful dialogue with the presenters. Students majoring in or persons working in the areas of Counseling, Social Work, Nursing, Criminal Justice, Human Resources, and Education will find this event helpful.

Topic: Services and resources available in the community to assist persons who may be victims of crime, abuse, or neglect. 
2:00 – 3:30 pm in the MPA
Community partners presenting along with VARO include: Sanctuary Incorporated of Guam, GPD's Domestic Assault Response Team (DART), and Erica's House. The public is invited. Students majoring in or persons working in the areas of Counseling, Social Work, Nursing, Criminal Justice, Human Resources, and Education will find this presentation helpful.

April 20 – Friday
Topic: Customized Employment Fair: Helping Employers Discover the Potential in Persons with Disabilities. 
9:00 am – Noon in the MPA
Pacific Human Resources Services, Office of Accommodative Services, Academic Advisement & Career Placement office, and the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation of the Department of Integrated Services for Individuals with Disabilities will present and connect persons with disabilities with various employers for employment dialogue. This event will go over a Master Job Application, resources, and other employment related items. Guest speaker will be Lt. Gov. Ray Tenorio.

April 25 – Wednesday 
Topic: GCC Programs Exposition
9:00 – 11:00 am in Student Center Room 5108
The GCC Department Chairs or their representatives will conduct presentations on their respective programs. There will be a Question and Answer period after the presentations. The purpose of this presentation is to provide parents, advocates, and students with information on our programs so that they can make better decisions on which program to possibly enroll in. Brochures and forms will be passed out to provide more information.  
- Associate Dean Pilar Williams will provide information on GCC’s secondary CTE programs and CHOICES (career assessment) for middle and high.
- DC Zhaopei Teng will present on the Computer Sciences Programs.
- DC Marsha Postrozny will present on the Education and early Childhood Programs

Topic: Disabilities and how they impact lives. 
2:00 – 3:15 pm in the Student Center Training Room 5108.

Sexual Assault Awareness & Child Abuse Prevention Month Outreach Fair
Set Up Time: 8:00 - 9:00 am
Event: 10:00 am - 2:00 pm, Micronesia Mall Center Court
Join GCC’s Title IX Office and OAS in manning a display table. If your department or organization would like to reserve a table for this outreach fair, please email or contact the Guam Coalition office at 479-2277. There is limited table space available. Last day to reserve is by Friday, April 13th, 2018.
