INTERDISCIPLINARY ARTS AND SCIENCES (formerly LIBERAL STUDIES)
Associate of Arts Degree
AA Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences (formerly Liberal Studies) program first to articulate to UOG's Interdisciplinary Arts & Sciences degree!
In October 2012, Guam Community College and the University of Guam reached a historic agreement whereby students who earn their Associate of Arts in Liberal Studies at GCC will have fulfilled their UOG General Education requirements at GCC and can transfer their entire degree over to UOG to pursue a Bachelor of Arts degree in Interdisciplinary Arts & Sciences. These students will then enter UOG with a junior class standing to complete course and baccalaureate requirements. Prior to this agreement, articulation between the two institutions has been on a course-by-course basis. Click here for details of GCC AA Liberal Studies to UOG IAS Degree.
The Associate of Arts in Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences is designed to provide a broad-based interdisciplinary education to prepare students who want to pursue a four-year degree. Courses include core subjects such as English, Math, Science, Social Sciences, the Arts, and languages.
An Associate of Arts in Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences can open the door for further educational opportunities, or allow you to enter the workforce armed with a broad educational base.
The GCC Advantage
Most of the courses in GCC's Associate of Arts in Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences will transfer to four-year institutions. In this way, you can earn your AA in Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences here at GCC, and then transfer to the four-year institution of your choice to pursue further higher educational opportunities.
All students who declare a major are assigned an Academic Advisor. Students are strongly urged to visit your advisor, who can help you draft an educational plan with course sequencing that meets your personal, academic, and career goals.
Student Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the AA in Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences program, students will be able to:
Demonstrate an ability to connect knowledge of human culture and the natural world to a variety of disciplines and perspectives.
Demonstrate effective reasoning, problem solving, critical thinking, and creative achievement, and an inclination to life-long inquiry and the pursuit of learning.
Identify and articulate the intellectual, ethical, cultural, and social qualities essential for leadership in a changing global community through awareness and respect for cultures diverse in thought, values, and beliefs.
The Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences program aims to provide students with the means to engage in critical insight, reasoning, mature judgment, and independent thinking; awakens students to a sense of the importance of values, self-awareness, and responsibility; and prepares students for scholarly excellence.
