2013 Science Symposium
Dr. Jay Sunga, assistant professor of science department, took the entire 3rd grade science curriculum, and in a year’s time, he and his students developed 18 stations where science concepts come to life and students learn the key words and concepts that appear on the test and in the Guam Department of Education’s core standards for their level. Students learned how to use microscopes, made goop out of glue and other chemicals, explored the concepts behind magnetism, and saw how an aquifer works. For 180 Tamuning Elementary School third graders, science came alive in the Guam Community College Multipurpose Auditorium Thursday, April 18, during the first annual GCC Science Symposium.
The Math Kangaroo Competition is an annual event, always on the third Thursday in March (March 20, 2015). The Math Department has been hosting this International Competition on Guam since 2009. The math department is making an effort to encourage all students from grade 1 to grade 12 on Guam to participate. Through this activity, students will be able
- to master their mathematical knowledge,
- to build confidence in their ability for comprehending mathematics,
- to help them understand how mathematics applies in nature's laws and human activities,
- to develop their ability to derive pleasure and satisfaction through intellectual life,
- to show that mathematical education is significant in every part of the world, and
- to enjoy the fun and excitement of solving mathematical problems.
