Join the International Coastal Cleanup on Saturday, Sept. 25
On Saturday, September 25th, GCC will once again join the Islandwide Cleanup. Our sites are Pago Bay and Tagachang Beach Park. Start time is 7 a.m. In order to provide a rewarding, safe experience for all, we request that volunteers register with us as groups one week prior to the cleanup. New USDA state director visits GCC, brings news of $2.25 million ARRA loan Posted: June 18, 2010
At the same time Guam Community College officials were meeting the U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development’s new state director for Hawaii and the Western Pacific Region this week, the college received formal word that it had been awarded a $2.25 million Community Facilities direct loan by the federal agency. more

GCC awards four Spero-Perez Scholarships Posted: June 7, 2010
GCC President Mary Okada on Thursday, June 3, presented scholarship checks from the Spero-Perez Memorial Scholarship Fund to Shian Marie Aricheta, a Criminal Justice major; Wanda Ililau, an Automotive Technology major, and Mary Ann Mendiola, a Computer Science and Criminal Justice major. A fourth scholarship recipient, Tammy Jones, was unavailable for the presentation ceremony. All four students received checks for $500 each. more

The CACGP Summer Academy curriculum is designed to teach and/or enhance the specific content area skills in Math, English, ESL, Computer Ed, Character Ed, College Preparation and Chamorro. These courses are self-paced and provide three levels of instruction: basic, intermediate and advanced. Guest presenters will provide hands-on activities and students will attend field trips to different public and private agencies as culminating activities.

GCC receives federal grant to furnish Learning Resource Center Posted: May 10, 2010
The Guam Community College received word this morning from the Department of Interior that the college will receive nearly $320,000 from Interior’s Operations and Maintenance Improvement Program (OMIP) to supply its new Learning Resource Center with recyclable furniture and collateral equipment. The $4.3 million building, which will be the first LEED- certified building for the government of Guam, is being paid for through a grant from the U.S. Department of Education. more

GCC to offer national WorkKeys system for job analysis and training Posted: May 5, 2010
Guam Community College, in partnership with the Guam Department of Labor, is preparing to implement the WorkKeys system for Job Analysis, Assessment and Training on Guam. The system matches the skill levels of an individual with the skills needed for over 16,000 different occupations. It is a nationally recognized system which has been proven to reduce employee turnover, decrease training times for new employees, and increase employee productivity by ensuring those hired have the skills to do the job; something which a diploma or certification might not provide an accurate assessment of, according to Victor Rodgers, GCC Assistant Director of Continuing Education and Workforce Development. more

GCC Now an Official Microsoft IT Academy Posted: March 24, 2010
GCC is now an official Microsoft IT Academy and the first entity in Micronesia to become an authorized training and testing center for Microsoft Office 2007. Company employees can now be certified on island in any or all of these five applications: Word, Excel, Access, Outlook and PowerPoint. This certification is good worldwide! Classes will be offered starting this summer in three-day, 8-hour per day sessions. Class size will be limited to 12 persons per class. The cost for each class is $695 and includes a pretest to determine competency, a class book and a certification exam on the final day.
